It’s a book. It’s a performance. It’s happening in Hilo!
Kimberly Dark lives on the big island and travels relentlessly bringing storytelling, workshops and lectures to others. It’s been a few years since she’s done a performance on the big island, but her new book, Fat, Pretty and Soon to be Old seemed like the right occasion! This show will have just debuted in Canada in October, made a few stops in Germany and be on its way to San Francisco in December. Basically Books will be at the event handling book sales. Author signing after the show.
In this storytelling performance, award-winning performer Kimberly Dark is here to remind you: “You don’t owe anyone pretty” and “We are creating the world, even as it creates us.”
In this moving and hilarious show, Kimberly Dark invites her audience to live in the experience of the body, not the appearance of the body. Drawing from her own experience as a fat—as well as queer, white-privileged, active then disabled, and inevitably aging—gender-conforming “girl with a pretty face,” Kimberly Dark deftly blends storytelling and social analysis to reveal the presence of every-day appearance privilege (and stigma).
$15 at the door (or as little as $10, if cost would keep you away!)
