March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month, and as we recognize the growing prevalence of traumatic brain injuries in our veteran population, we are joining our friends at TBI Warrior Foundation in the quest to help make lives better for those who have sustained this kind of trauma. Emerging research shows that mindful practices are beneficial to TBI survivors. Specifically, TBI survivors that participate in yoga practice report improved sleep, improved energy, decreased anxiety and depression and feel more hopeful and calm.
Yoga instructor Elisha Starr, a veteran and the owner of Inner Harmony Bodywork in Hilo, will guide a special yoga session at Ho‘ola on March 15 at 9am. If you or someone you know might benefit from this restorative class, we encourage you to come check it out.
Veterans, family members and caregivers welcome.
