Magics Beach Grill in Kona, Hawaii

Share Post

Did I just find my new favorite spot to hang out in Kona?!

On March 22, 2019 this highly anticipated restaurant opened its doors to the public. I had heard the hype, now I wanted to see for myself. I planned to pop in for a quick cocktail, and ending up spending an entire afternoon here. I sat at a table outside, and literally felt like I was in a dream. With fresh sea breeze and an incredible shoreline, Magics Beach Grill gave me an amazing front row seat of the stunning Kona shoreline.

Landmark Location in Kona

Right off of Ali'i Drive, many locals remember this spot as the beloved former restaurant Dorian's, and then later legendary Jameson's by the Sea. For months Magics had a temporary food truck serving up local bites while the new restaurant was in preparation. Now that their permanent spot is open, this location can continue as a legacy hot spot for both locals and tourists.

Island Views and Vibes

Magics Beach Grill in located right on the water and next to the always popular Magics Sands Beach (aka Laʻaloa Beach). They also have a walk-up window Beach Shack with access to the sandy beach next door. When I walked through the front doors of the building, the stunning ocean views were the first thing I notice. Next was the modern and fun decor, cool wood tables and island vibes. With open windows, the sea breeze and stunning turquoise and blue waters really set the mood. I just love that there is a nice spot to hang out, relax and enjoy island life next to one of our favorite beaches on the Big Island.

Community Focused

The connection to the island culture and community is shown in this beautiful local artwork made from ocean marine debris found on Ka’ū beaches.

This is a restaurant that I will feel good about returning to because of their commitment to the community. For example, I was impressed to learn that they make all their food from scratch and get ingredients locally. Their menu items are nearly 100 percent sourced from local farmers, ranchers and fishermen. Even the artwork on the walls shows their commitment to sustainability.

I spent the afternoon sipping on one of their most popular drinks, the Magic Spritz. I love that they even serve their drinks with paper straws, a small nod to their environmental awareness.

The Magics Spritz: sparkling rosé, aperol, grapefruit juice, rosemary, club soda.

Nobody can deny that the new Magics Beach Grill will continue to be a hit in Kona. It is located at 77–6452 Ali'i Drive and is open from 11am to 9pm Monday through Saturday and for brunch on Sundays from 1oam to 3pm. Their Beach Shack is open every day from 8am until sunset. Have you ever been yet?
